Parenting with Taqwa
The first of its kind 12-week guided course for parents wanting practical tools to understand and support a child experiencing same-sex desires through an Islamic, psychological and God-centred spiritual framework.

Are you trying to support your child, but afraid of getting it wrong?
From the outside, you may be trying to stay calm, supportive and grounded in your faith. But inside, you may be carrying questions you never expected to face as a parent.
You may be wondering what this means for your child’s faith, their future, marriage, family and relationship with Allah — while also questioning what you should say, what you shouldn’t say, and whether your response might bring them closer to you or push them further away.
For others, there is silence. You love your child deeply, but you are afraid that saying the wrong thing could compromise your Islamic values — or damage a relationship you desperately want to preserve.
How do you remain faithful to what you believe while becoming the parent your child feels safe turning to?
But what if your role isn’t to control their journey?
‘Our Lord, grant us from our spouses and our offspring comfort to our eyes, and make us leaders for the God-conscious.’ 25:74
What if supporting your child does not mean having all the answers, changing what they feel, or guaranteeing the choices they will make?
What if it means learning to understand their experience, manage your own fears, communicate with wisdom, and remain a source of guidance as they navigate faith, sexuality and their relationship with Allah?

When fear gives way to understanding, the relationship begins to change. You can hold firmly to your Islamic values while becoming more compassionate, more thoughtful and more confident in how you respond. Instead of reacting from panic, shame or uncertainty, you can learn how to listen, guide, set appropriate boundaries and help your child develop their own relationship with Allah.

Inside the Course

1. When you first find out
Our initial impulse is to immediately fix our child. Emotions of fear, rage, catastrophising and shame take over. We learn how to establish an environment where truth can be spoken safely.
2. Attraction, Shahwa, Choice and Accountability
We distinguish between desires, intention, action and identity. Is the only goal to reach opposite sex attraction? What may have they been carrying all these years?
3. Examining our Nafs
While our children may be struggling with shahwa, what are we struggling with? Where do we have most ability to change our condition?
4. Hidden aspects of your child
Your child is more than their sexual desires. How do we see other aspects of our child or has everything else disappeared?
5. Ya Bunayya
Learning attachment before giving advice. Can I disagree and still love my child? Does acceptance mean agreement with every choice?
6. The power of listening
Our children have been carrying this longer than we have. Listening without wanting a fix or an origin theory demonstrates you are present with them.
7. Do I need to remind them each time?
If the teaching around sexual ethics becomes their entire Islam, then we have disassociated them from Allah. What does a comprehensive tarbiyah program look like?
8. Shame
The societal and cultural expectations we face as parents. Am I ashamed as a parent? Do we propagate the shame to our children? Can my child come to me after falling into sin?
9. Modesty
What does hayaa and privacy look like for you? Do I need to respect my child’s privacy?
10. Marriage
What is the Islamic understanding for marriage for these cases? Is marriage the answer? What if I found the perfect spouse for my child?
11. Handling Disagreements
Learning how to remain a source of connection to family, faith and Allah, even when you disagree with choices your child may make
12. Walking with them
What things am I responsible for and which do I have to let go? How do I manage my emotions while continuing to build the relationship with my child?

A note from Ali
I created this course after 5 years of sitting with parents every week in our Parents Support Circle, who were afraid they would be losing their children or whose children had actually lost contact with them. The course allows for difficult conversations to happen without the need to cancel the relationship.
